Parent Weekly Communications, Friday 30th January 2026
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Reminder – Forthcoming Academy Days
A reminder that the following days will be Academy Days this year and the school will be open to staff only. Students will not be in school on Tuesday, 3rd February and Wednesday, 18th March 2026.
Key Stage 4 Curriculum Evening – Wednesday 4th March 2026
Year 9 families were emailed on Thursday 29th January with an invitation for parents/carers and students to attend the important KS4 Curriculum Evening which will support your children in choosing their GCSE Options subjects. Please refer to the letter that was emailed yesterday and follow the link to register your attendance.
Coats
In light of the recent improvement in weather conditions and the significant cold spell having now passed, we would like to provide an update regarding our school uniform policy.
From Monday 2nd February, students will no longer be permitted to wear winter coats inside the school building, including in corridors and classrooms. Coats may continue to be worn outside on school grounds where appropriate. We will continue to monitor both the weather and the internal temperature of the building carefully. Should conditions change, we will review this guidance and provide further updates as necessary.
Parking in Townley Road
You will note that we have shared regular reminders about driving and parking safely in the vicinity of the school and, regretfully, we continue to receive complaints from local residents and road users. We have now also received complaints from local bus companies.
Please can we remind you not to park on the double yellow lines on Townley Road. This is not only dangerous and illegal, it is having a huge impact on the flow of traffic and making it very dangerous at both ends of the school day. Buses are unable to get through safely and this is therefore causing traffic jams along Townley Road, impacting the whole area. Please park away from the school and allow your child to walk to the school site.
Thank you for your cooperation.
The PFA - Valentine's Day Family Quiz – Friday 13th February 2026
The PFA is delighted to invite you and your family to our Valentine’s Day Family Quiz Night, taking place from 6pm – 8pm - Tickets: £5 per family
Join us for a fun and friendly evening of quizzes, laughter, and family competition, a great way to spend time together and support the school. We are also pleased to share that this event has been designed by a parent, with support from the PFA, and we would love for our school community to come along and support her. In addition, we would love children to submit artwork on the theme of “love.” Pieces will be displayed at the event in the evening. Please visit the school website for details on how to submit artwork.

Children's Mental Health Week 9-15th February 2026
At Townley Grammar School, we recognise that mental health and wellbeing are fluid—they can change from day to day. It isn't always easy to tell when a young person is struggling, as we all react differently to life's challenges. Our goal is to foster an environment where open conversations are the norm. By talking honestly about our feelings, we can dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health and ensure every student feels safe and empowered to seek support when they need it. While supporting a young person through a difficult time can feel daunting, please remember that you are not alone; there is a wealth of expert guidance available.
Helpful resources:
- Mind - Youth Info Hub: A comprehensive guide to help young people and their families understand their experiences and find a way forward.
- Kooth: A free, safe, and anonymous online platform specifically designed to support youth mental health.
What’s Happening at Townley -
Throughout the week of 9th–15th February, we will be hosting a variety of events during registration and lunchtimes. We encourage all students to check their Year Group Hubs for the full schedule and more information on how to get involved.
Kind regards,
Miss H Mitchem
Deputy Headteacher
