Leading Edge Framework for Exceptional Education - Congratulations!
🌟 We are delighted to share that Townley Grammar School has been awarded an SSAT Award – a recognition of our commitment to student leadership, inclusivity, and values-driven education.
At Townley, our four core values – Consciousness, Courage, Compassion and Curiosity – underpin everything we do. They shape our culture, guide our decisions, and ensure our students flourish not only academically but also as thoughtful, articulate young leaders. From our Leadership Lessons and Townley Baccalaureate to the personalised support of our Student Hub (and Dot, our therapy dog 🐾), we are proud to create an environment where every student feels empowered and prepared for their future.
This award, given by SSAT – the Schools, Students and Teachers network – reflects the dedication of our staff and the ambition of our students. Since 1987, SSAT has been at the forefront of school improvement, championing the mission that “all students, whatever their ability or context, leave school fully prepared to lead fulfilled and purposeful lives.”
👏 Congratulations to our incredible staff, students, and wider school community on this achievement – your hard work, compassion, and leadership truly shine.

The statement from Angela Idun, SSAT Leading Edge moderator is shown below:
Townley Grammar School is an inclusive, values driven school. Its core values, the four C’s, Consciousness, Courage, Compassion and Curiosity, are at the heart of the school’s work and underpin its commitment to building and sustaining an environment in which students can flourish. The values are not only articulated but actively lived, shaping culture, decisions, relationships, and experiences of the whole school community. The school’s approach to developing student leadership is a real strength. Central to the school’s mission is empowering students to grow as leaders. Dedicated curriculum time allows all KS3 students to focus on leadership as part of their personal development and to pursue accreditation. Sixth form students spoke about the many opportunities they have at the school to take responsibility and develop skills and qualities they believe will be invaluable in the future.
The impact of the school’s work is seen in its students. They are articulate, thoughtful, and exemplify the school’s values and purpose. Student voice is strong. Students speak with pride about belonging to the school. In addition to the core curriculum, students benefit from dedicated time for The Townley Baccalaureate, Consciousness Curriculum, Leadership Lessons, International Relations and Townley Advantage, designed to widen skillsets and develop purpose and emotional awareness. Students feel well supported to take their next steps appreciating both academic guidance and the personal care they receive during their time at the school.
The Student Hub provides personalised support for those facing barriers to learning, while Dot, the therapy dog, also helps reduce anxiety and support wellbeing. Impact is reflected through positive relationships, high attendance and a culture in which students feel empowered. There is evidence that the school has worked with external stakeholders, particularly the local authority to support students that have experienced abuse on their way to school and have ‘reached out’ to schools in the area to help with the learnings from their approach to EDI. A publication from ASCL was provided that showcases much of the work staff have done at the school in the implementation of EDI approaches and it is clear from the data that this is taking hold.
Moving forward, the school will embark on the SSAT student leadership accreditation and attempt to extend our reach in supporting other schools. It was an absolute pleasure to embark on this accreditation journey.
