Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Year 13
To all in Year 13, as your examination period approaches, We want to extend our very best wishes to each and every one of you. We trust you enjoyed your leavers' assembly and the school applause, moments that celebrated your journey and contributions to our school community. We eagerly anticipate welcoming you back for Head Girl's Day, another opportunity to recognise your collective achievements. Remember, these upcoming examinations are a chance to demonstrate the knowledge and skills you have diligently cultivated throughout your time here. Approach them with confidence, focus, and the understanding that your hard work has prepared you for this moment. Believe in yourselves; we certainly do.
Important Information for Year 7 Parents/Carers:
Secondary Speech and Language Screener
This term, we will be conducting a Secondary Speech and Language Screener for all Year 7 students. This screener, called Secondary Language Link, is a valuable tool used in school to help us identify students who might benefit from some extra support in developing their language and communication skills. Strong language skills are crucial for your child's literacy development, academic success, and their ability to interact confidently with others. The screener is completed online and will assess your child's understanding of spoken language in both classroom and social situations. It looks at two main areas:
- Core Language: Understanding instructions, processing information, and making sense of more complex words and sentences.
- Social Understanding: Recognising things like sarcasm, idioms, multiple meanings, and understanding what is implied.
The Secondary Language Link assessment has been standardised across England and Wales, which means we can compare your child's performance to that of other students their age nationally. The screening will take place over two weeks, commencing week of Monday, 12th May. Your child will complete the assessment during their library lessons. It should take your child 50 minutes to complete the screener. Therefore, it may be that two library lessons are used to complete the screener.
Please be assured that the information gathered from this screener will help us to provide the best possible support for your child's learning and development. If the screener identifies a need for further support, we will be in touch to discuss this with you in more detail. Thank you for your continued support.
