Important information on new Science buildings
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are delighted to share some significant news regarding the continued development of our school estate and the enhancement of our academic facilities with the construction of two new, purpose-built science laboratories.
These state-of-the-art facilities will be designed in collaboration with our Science department to ensure that they meet the needs of our students and of our curriculum. At Townley, Science is a significant part of our core curriculum with every student pursuing Triple Science at GCSE, with Biology, Chemistry and Physics each being very popular at A-Level, these facilities are a vital investment in our core provision. The completion of this project will allow us to remove our current "huts", replacing them with high-specification, permanent spaces designed with our students in mind.
These new build classrooms are a result of Townley Grammar School being successful in securing a Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) grant from the government. The CIF is a highly competitive annual fund awarded only to schools that demonstrate a rigorous case for facility expansion. Securing this investment ensures that we can modernise our estate with external funding, directly supporting our mission to provide an exceptional learning environment without impacting our core educational budget.
The project will officially commence building on Monday 13th February, with an anticipated completion date of October 2026. Starting tomorrow, construction staff will be onsite from Tuesday 27th January to mark out the area, and ensure that our site is safe during the build. The construction area will be fully cordoned off and managed with our Site Team in accordance with Health and Safety regulations. Student movement around the school will remain safe and well-signposted, with routes being updated and communicated to students. We have worked closely with the project team to ensure that the build and deliveries do not interfere with our daily timetable, or the upcoming examination season.
We are incredibly excited about the opportunities this expansion affords our students and we look forward to sharing further updates and photos as the build progresses.
Kind regards
Miss H Mitchem
Deputy Headteacher
