Parents/Carers & Students Weekly Communication

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

International Women’s Day – Friday 8th March
We will be celebrating International Women’s Day this week with a variety of events. Whole year group assemblies will be delivered across the week and students will be completing Pledge cards during form time which will be displayed in reception.  In addition, the PTA are holding an International Women’s Day stall event which will run all day, in the main hall, on Friday.

Students will have an opportunity to visit the stalls throughout the day and at break times and can bring a small amount of cash into school with them if they wish to make a purchase. Please note, they will not be able to use their phones to pay.

Attendance
There is wide agreement among health professionals and educational professionals that school attendance is vital to the life chances of children and young people. Being in school improves health, wellbeing and socialisation throughout the life course. The greatest benefits come from children and young people attending school regularly.

It is usually appropriate for you as parents and carers to send your children to school with mild respiratory illnesses. This would include general cold symptoms: a minor cough, runny nose or sore throat. However, children should not be sent to school if they have a temperature of 38°C or above.

We would encourage you to utilise the NHS guidance 'Is My Child too Ill for School' available here

Measles and the MMR vaccine
With rising cases of measles in the UK, please see the important letter attached from Bexley School’s Immunisations Team.

 Treatment of head lice
Although there tends to be a peak in head lice outbreaks when children return to school in the Autumn / Winter months, there can be an outbreak at any point in the year. It is advisable for you to check your child’s hair regularly because anyone can catch head lice regardless of the condition, length or type of hair.  There are two treatment methods if head lice are discovered:

  • one is to wet comb the hair over a period of two weeks.
  • the other method is to use a lotion specially made to kill lice and their eggs quickly and safely.

Additional guidance can be found by clicking on the following NHS website: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice-and-nits/.  Please find attached a copy of the information the NHS provide, which contains more specific details about detection and treatment.

Mindful March
Please find attached the “Mindful March” calendar. Mindfulness helps us respond more wisely, especially in difficult times. So, let's pause, breathe, and choose to live mindfully this month. By cultivating inner peace, we can contribute to peace in the world around us too.

Kind regards,

Miss S Totty

Senior Deputy Headteacher
