Spring Term 2008 Dear Parents/Guardians. The Spring Term ends at the usual time of 3.35pm on Friday the 4th April. All pupils begin the Summer Term on Monday the 21st April at the usual time. We have enjoyed seeing so many of you at Parents’ evenings this term to discuss your daughter’s progress. The final parents’ evening of the year is for Year 9 on Thursday the 24th April from 4.30pm – 7.30pm. We are saying goodbye this term to Mr Narkotey who has been teaching Mathematics at the school for six years. We wish him well for his new post at Hackney Community College in London. I would like to thank him for all his hard work with his teaching groups. Miss Barnett has been appointed as a full time member of the Mathematics Department as from next term. Mrs Hancock, from the Mathematics department, begins her maternity leave at the end of this term and Mrs Haslam will once again be joining the department. We have had the good news of the safe arrival of Mrs Jones’ baby Millie, Mrs Stewart had a baby boy called Nathaniel and Mr Kent’s wife gave birth to Liam last week. There are some revision sessions for Years 11, 12 and 13 in the holidays and they have been informed of the dates and times of these sessions. I would like to wish Years 9, 11, 12 and 13 well as they begin their revision for the public examinations in May and June. The Summer Term tends to be dominated by examinations and they begin for Year 10 on Friday the 25th April. SATs examinations for Year 9 begin on Tuesday 6th May. The GCSE examinations begin on the 14th May but practical examinations begin earlier. The A/S examinations begin on the 12th May and A2 on the 5th June. School examinations for Years 7 and 8 begin on the 12th May. There is no legal requirement for study leave and many students do revise more efficiently within the structure of a school day and with the support of teachers. The date for Year 11 study leave will not be released as all secondary Head Teachers in Bexley work together to dismiss pupils on different days to avoid any difficulties in Bexleyheath. I would like to remind everyone that SATs, GCSEs, A/S and A/2 examinations cannot be taken at any other time. These are national tests and students throughout the country sit them on the same day and at the same time. Holiday forms are never signed for absences during the examination period. Missed school examinations always have to be taken when a pupil returns if they have been away from school. I would like to commend 7.3 for the mature way that they have coped with the death of Adenike Awofadeju, who very sadly died in hospital on the 18th February. She will be missed by her many friends in her form and year group. We have sent our condolences to her mother and sister and we will be thinking of them in the difficult times ahead. I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable spring holiday and I would like to thank the staff for all their hard work this term. Yours sincerely Mrs L Hutchinson
