Young Ambassadors - Enhancing the Power of the Olympic Values
|
On Wednesday 12th January, the Young Ambassadors for sport of our school hosted a conference to promote the Olympic values for London 2012.
This involved giving a presentation to a room full of Head teachers from both primary and secondary schools. The evening started by meeting and greeting the guests which Adistar, Casey Porritt, year 11 handled along with another Adistar from the borough. This was followed by a slide show and speech given by the Gold Ambassadors, Kathy Morrison and Becka O’Connor, year 12. The Platinum Ambassadors, Beth Holmans and Olivia Blatch, year 13 then went into detail about the Olympic and Paralympic values. These are, inspiration, equality, courage, determination, excellence, friendship and respect. We then received a presentation from the GetSet network about tickers and how schools can get involved, which Townley are already a part of. Lizzie Nash, another Adistar, year 11 then introduced Olympic high jumper, Steve Smith who competed in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. He achieved a Bronze medal in 1996 and holds the British high jump record of 7ft ’10! He spoke about his personal experience and how he prepared mentally and physically for the games. It was very inspirational and made London 2012 seem just around the corner. The evening was very enjoyable and hopefully the values have been taken into account by the schools involved.
